It's not complicated and is boiled down to timing when to shoot an arrow with no aiming needed, but it made traversal fun to the point where I was happy enough to just travel aimlessly. The movement system is very unique and involves shooting talismans to keep up momentum as you run across the landscape. The puzzles are needed to gain tokens to cleanse towers, that allow you to fight the boss of each area. It is much more action packed, but does have a lot of slow paced puzzles similar to that of Abzu. Finally, it’s a great indie game offering an amazing open-world adventure with exciting boss battles and interesting puzzles to solve.ĥh PlayedThe Pathless is definitely reminiscent of Abzu, but is very different game altogether. I feel like even if I had access to a new area, I had to do the same things to unlock the boss fight and the next area by collecting all Lightstone.

The only con I can say will be the length of the game and the repetitiveness of each area. The puzzles are really well made also even if some are a bit annoying but give some challenges. About the environment, it was amazing to navigate and discover each zone of the area and the fact you can use the flap will make you able to look at the zone from the sky and the feeling is amazing. Actually, this game really looks like Shadow Of The Colossus with the boss fights and the level design. The boss fights are amazing and each one is different. The gameplay is really fun with an original movement system involving shooting talismans to keep up the pace and navigate faster to wherever we want to go. The soundtrack is amazing and relaxing but I was expecting more variety when we go to a new area. This is what I love about indie games because I love how the developers use the color palette. The colors used were well used and really good looking. About this game, I really loved the art direction and the graphics. They just made two games but they proved that they can develop their talent and their creativity. Took me an additional 2 hours to get the other 8 achievements, one of which, the final one, was glitched yay!.Ģ0h PlayedThe Pathless is an outstanding indie game and by far, the best game from the studio Giant Squid.

9/10 Edit: 100% the game and the achievements I thought were impossible were relatively within grasp (after learning the dialogue bubbles usually sit in one spot/venue on every plateau with some exceptions, I was missing one in the first plateau). the only flaw I can think of in an otherwise perfect game littered with subtext. the only notable cons I can agree on is the slight annoyances in the puzzles, the lightstones were fine and collecting them was made easy enough for anyone to do but the bizarre placement ways of unlocking those strangely placed talismans was not my favourite. one thing that blew me away each time was the boss fights, these huge epic cinematic set pieces. would recommend to any fan of any genre, but this is the puzzle adventure fantasy game made for game lovers. that maybe was a tad too long but powerful all the same with its set piece finale. an astoundingly brilliant game that excels in art direction and music composition. I could (and did) play this all dayġ2h 48m Playeda true marvel. And I absolutely didn’t want to leave this world after the credits rolled. And I found myself greatly attached to my flying companion. To feel that sense of awe and scale and be one with it, is one of the premier joys I’ve experienced in gaming. But then the movement system makes u feel one with those environments and the continuous progression of the flying mechanic allows you to climb those structures and topple them with ease. The environments and structures are colossal and u feel truly small in their presence. I was in awe of the sense of scale on display nearly every second I was playing. Now, if I hate puzzles, and this game is made up entirely of puzzles and a few boss battles, how is this an all timer for me? It’s that sense of discovery I mentioned. And the little puzzles that make up a lot of the experience, while all similar, never felt repetitive (in fact I found them very enjoyable. But I don’t think that ever tainted my sense of discovery and awe. Why take away the distinct colors of each region?). Like the red tint that covers the world once you beat it. And I could see that bothering some (and I have some nitpicks. It does have a somewhat repetitive overarching structure. 16h PlayedProbably one of my favorite games of all time.
